Summer. Those long, sunny days of freedom from school, sleeping in, and… wait, what exactly are you supposed to do with all this time? Maybe you’re feeling too old for kiddie activities, you don’t have the budget for expensive camps or trips every day, and you’re definitely not about to spend three months glued to your phone. Is summer slowly becoming synonymous with “boring”?
Well, we asked YOU, our incredible teen community, how you make summer unforgettable without breaking the bank or your parents’ patience, and wow – your responses totally inspired us! Let’s dive into some of this amazing creativity…
Level Up Your DIY Game
Okay, so you can’t hit up every trendy café or expensive activity – but that doesn’t mean you can’t have the BEST summer ever! The creative solutions you shared are seriously next-level. Some of you are turning your kitchens into experimental food labs, while others are discovering that the most fun happens when you stop trying to buy entertainment and start making it yourself.
Instead of going to stores, me and my friends get together and try to replicate the food that we would want to buy. It’s way funner and tastes better. Once we made waffles with ice cream and toppings on it, another time we bought boba, and made lemonade-slush as the drink so it tasted more store-bought.

And can we talk about how brilliant this is? You’re getting the satisfaction of creating something amazing AND the fun of hanging with friends, all while probably spending way less than you would at some fancy place!
Make Your Home Summer Central
Who needs to go searching for adventure when you can create the most epic experiences right in your own backyard? Check out what one of our amazing teens is doing – she’s literally running her own camp and proving that the best summer jobs might be the ones you create yourself:
I’m making a camp with my friend for 4-5 year old boys the cutest age ever and believe it or not boys are much much easier than girls. We do tons of fun activities like we gave our car a car wash and we even went to visit the fire station… – Leah
How amazing is this? Leah turned her summer into an adventure by creating adventures for others. Plus, she’s probably learning more about leadership and responsibility than any expensive program could teach her!
Getting Into the Spirit(ual) of Summer
Here’s something that might surprise you – summer doesn’t have to be all about entertainment and activities! One of our teens shared something that totally shifted our perspective on what makes a summer truly meaningful:
I know, cleaning doesn’t sound like fun, but it totally is fun if you have the right attitude. And if you don’t feel like you are stuck doing it, and instead are doing it of your own benevolence and kindness :) …Also, I decided that each week on Friday I would organize one part of our playroom… It feels so gratifying to see a messy space be turned into something really orderly and clean! – Rivky
This is so deep! Rivky discovered that the secret to an amazing summer isn’t about what you’re doing – it’s about your attitude toward what you’re doing. She’s turning household responsibilities into personal accomplishments and finding genuine joy in helping her family.
And here’s another beautiful approach:
Creating something meaningful for the people you love? That’s pure summer magic right there. Plus, imagine how amazing it’ll feel when your family sees all those memories beautifully organized!
I also decided that I want to do a project for my family with all the extra time I had, so I worked on going through old pics and printing them for albums- it’s something that we’ve been pushing off for a while. – B.Y.
Fresh Takes on Summer Traditions
No fancy camp? No problem! Some of you are discovering that the most memorable summers happen when you think outside the traditional camp box. Whether you’re diving into creative passions, finding adventure in everyday activities, or simply embracing a different pace:
I took on writing a lot this summer since I always loved to write but don’t have much time during the year. At night I just curl up with a good book. – Shira
There’s something so satisfying about finally having time for the things you’re passionate about! And for those juggling work and fun:
So I actually started working this summer (I just finished sem) and first half I only worked mornings, so I was QUITE bored. I went swimming a ton, shopped at the mall and outlets, got together with friends. I also invited friends for Shabbos and sleepovers (yeah, I’m not too big for that;) – B.Y.
Sometimes we just go on walks and enjoy the weather! – CTL
Your Turn!
So… how are YOU planning to make this summer incredible? Whether you’re starting your own business like Leah, turning your kitchen into a creativity lab, or discovering the satisfaction that comes from the right attitude toward everyday tasks – there’s no wrong way to do summer!
Remember: Just because you don’t have unlimited funds or elaborate plans doesn’t mean this can’t be your best summer yet. The most amazing summers happen when you stop waiting for something to entertain you and start creating your own adventure.
To anyone who didn’t have summer plans and was home and complained about it, please don’t, since there are so many things that are called boring that you can make totally fun, with the right attitude. – Rivky
